Stairs!

And other new things! This morning when I went into the office I saw a little kitten face looking at me from the other side of the baby gate across my closet door. She was in the hamper full of clothes I had used to prop up the too large gate that didn't fit properly. Of course it was Athena, I predicted she'd be the first to figure out how to get over the gate and that it would happen within the next week. I said this at the end of last week, it now being Tuesday, but I was hoping for a bit more time. Like, towards the end of the week.

Of course from there it was only minutes until she figure out, after watching me go back and forth, that the gate across the room door was the same kind as across the closet door. And just like that she was out and exploring while her sister lay in front of the door gate watching. I was in the bathroom and saw it happen and watched Athena trot into the bedroom. Within a few minutes the mister came out to ask if I knew one of them had escaped. I said yes and noticed he was pointing at the stairs. I jogged down the stairs and found Athena all the way in the kitchen about to head for the basement door. I brought her back upstairs, put her in the office, and shut the door.

I'm home early today from work before the July 4 holiday tomorrow and the gates are both gone and the girls are exploring the house freely. Both have their collars on of course and from now on will always wear them. The collars are still a bit too big but not nearly so much so as that first day. I'd rather have them on in case A ever gets bold enough to make a bolt for the door.

It's a good thing the collars have bells because we leave in 40 minutes for their first vet visit and having the two mites noisy will help track them down when it's time to go.
